To Medicate or Not

Dear Reader
I have medicated my baby
I have vowed since being diagnosed with Lupus that any medical ailment of my own or my kids or my husband would be treated the natural way. Well, I have broken that vow. To my dismay, Erian hyper behavior has proven detrimental to his therapy and learning. He has not been diagnosed ADD or ADHD but our doctor has encouraged us to try Ritalin, to see if any change has been noted. The first day I give Erian the Ritalin, I cry. I cry for my forgotten convictions and for my baby who is ingesting this controversial drug. So, as a punishment to myself, I take one too. I figure if I put it in Erians mouth, I should be able to put it in mine too. Surprise surprise both erian and I haven’t had that much of a noted effect. Some people have claimed improved behavior. For the most part, my son is just growing up. He is maturing. Sadly, his long body doesn’t fit on my lap anymore. Erian Cole, what a handsome boy you are. Would words and speech matter with eyes like that? I wonder. Erian has the best problem solving mind I have ever encountered. My conversations with him amaze me. No drug could better the person you are. A rock collecting, air bending, pancake loving human being is what this world needs…. just the way you are 💗

A letter from my mom

Dear Reader,

I want to open my heart and share a part of our journey—a journey that has taught me that our worth is beyond measure, and our strength is a force that can move mountains. As Women’s Month unfolds, I stand alongside you, my fellow mothers, who often carry silent battles and unspoken worries in the depths of your hearts.

Allow me to introduce you to the heart of my journey, my son Erian Cole, now a remarkable 15-year-old who has redefined my understanding of strength and resilience. His path has been a testament to the power of embracing challenges, not as setbacks, but as stepping stones to extraordinary heights.

Erian’s entrance into our lives was a gift beyond words, a precious reminder that miracles grace our existence. In those early years, his growth and resilience laid the foundation for a journey marked by determination and unwavering hope.

Yet, let me assure you, our journey has not been one paved with certainty. The diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, unexpected and life-altering, unveiled the remarkable courage that lies within Erian. He has shown us that our uniqueness is our greatest asset, and our battles, though unseen, shape us into warriors of strength.

Erian’s spirit is indomitable. Challenges have transformed into fuel for his unyielding determination, propelling him to achieve and prove that his voice, though gentle, carries a power that defies all odds. His speech delay hasn’t dampened his spirit; it’s ignited a fire that burns more brilliantly than ever.

As we stand at this juncture, with Erian turning 16 soon, his journey speaks volumes about the person he has become. His narrative is one of resilience and triumph, a testament to the incredible growth that emerges from facing obstacles head-on. In moments shared, tears shed, and victories celebrated, I’ve witnessed his tapestry of life becoming richer and more vibrant.

But beyond our personal journey, there’s a message I want to share with each one of you. To the mothers whose strength often remains hidden, who bear the weight of silent battles, and who walk a path that few may truly understand—your worth is immeasurable. In a world quick to judge, you stand as a pillar of courage, a beacon of love, and a reservoir of strength.

As Women’s Month unfolds, let us collectively embrace the struggles that shape our lives. Let us march forward with unshakable hope and the conviction that every obstacle we conquer is a testament to our resilience. To those who look upon us with judgment or misunderstanding, let them witness our strength, our determination, and the love that fuels our journey.

Moms, let your challenges be the foundation of your strength. Let the world see the courage that courses through your veins and the unyielding love that flows between you and your children. The path may be rocky, but remember that you are not alone. Together, we forge a tapestry woven with hope, courage, and strength.

With love, understanding, and unwavering support,

Erian’s Mom 🌸
